Inter Milan continued to fortify their roster for the Serie A title chase in acquiring Christian Eriksen and Ashley Young from their respective Premier League teams.

Eriksen signed a five-a-half year contract, valid until June 2024 after Inter Milan paid Tottenham Hotspur a 16.9 million British Pounds or 19.92 million Euros transfer fee to acquire the Dutch midfielder.

“I’m very excited and can’t wait to introduce myself to the fans,” Eriksen said via BBC Sport on joining Inter Milan. “I’ve already experienced their warmth, it’s been a fantastic welcome. I feel great.”

“The numbers say that I did really well in England. It’s now time to start a new challenge, I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Serie A for a big team. Inter is a fantastic club.”

Eriksen was part of the Tottenham squad that achieved a runner-up finish in the EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 seasons respectively.

In a separate article published by BBC Sport, Eriksen admitted he was a  ‘’black sheep’’ in Tottenham in being vocal to exit the club after the squad disappointing UEFA Champions League Finals run, leading some fans to angry at him and effectively ending his wonderful six-year run with Tottenham.

“I did get the blame for a lot of stuff, for being the bad guy,” Eriksen said via BBC Sport.

“Yes. England, for the last few years, was very hectic. After what I said in the summer, it was just about ‘when is he going to leave?’ Every game it was ‘Is he leaving? Is he not leaving?’ Of course, a lot of people were speaking about it, ‘’ Eriksen reflected on his decision to leave Tottenham and the backlash.

“Even the fans you see on the street were like ‘Thank you, goodbye and good luck’. But I was still there. It was a bit weird. In my head and for my body, it is good that I am in a new place and I can start again.”

Aside from Eriksen, Inter Milan also signed Ashley Young from Manchester United in a six-month contract with a one-year extension option.

Inter Milan paid a 1.28 million British Pounds or 1.51 million Euros in transfer fee to acquire Young and joined other Manchester United alumnus Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez that currently playing for the club.

“You gave me the chance to play with legends, to win trophies, to work under the greatest manager in history and to be your captain. Thank you for letting me be part of your story for eight and a half years,’’ said Young via ESPN on bidding adieu to Manchester United .

“Every time I walked on the pitch wearing your shirt I gave you my all. Thank you for your support during the highs and the lows. I leave as one of you, see you again in an away end soon.”

Young during his eight-and-a-half-year run at Manchester United won a Premier League, UEFA Europa League, FA Cup titles among others and named team captain of the squad this season after the departure of Antonio Valencia.

Harry Maguire was named as new Manchester United captain in the aftermath of Young departure to Inter Milan.

Inter Milan occupied the second spot in the Serie A table with 51 points, just behind defending champion Juventus. The Milan-based club is looking to win their first Serie A title since the 2009-2010 season.
