England’s head coach, Gareth Southgate will stay in the team after signing a four-year, 3 million British pound contract, to keep him on command through the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The deal was announced last September 26th.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the national team through the next two major tournaments,’’ said Southgate via Goal.com, referring to UEFA Nations League and UEFA Euro 2020.

“The job remains an incredible privilege and a true honor. Experiencing at first-hand how the nation united behind the team this summer was something special and it will be great to see how far this young squad can go in the years to come.’’

Southgate, who led England for its first World Cup semifinals finish since 1990 and putting his team a game away from the finals, came in command for the Three Lions in replacing Sam Allardyce last November 2016. Since then, the 48-year-old led England youth movement in the roster- which is one of the keys why England had a deep run in the last edition of the World Cup.

British Football Association (FA) chief executive Martin Glenn said, securing Southgate commitment for the England men’s football team for the long run is one of their priorities.

‘’Securing Gareth on a longer-term contract was always a priority for us. He has performed remarkably well and has given everyone the belief that England can compete on a world stage again,’’ said Glenn via the same Goal.com report.

“He is also a tremendous ambassador for the organization, our development teams and the wider work of The FA, although his focus is rightly solely on helping the elite team,’’ Glenn added.

Currently, Southgate tallied 13 wins, four draws and six losses as the head coach of England.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores 500th career goal in Los Angeles Galaxy loss

Zlatan Ibrahimovic achieved a personal record in scoring his 500th career goal but it did not save his team, the Los Angeles Galaxy who lost to Toronto FC with a score of 5-3 in Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season game last September 16th.

Forget about the loss, since Ibrahimovic had a fantastic way in recording his 500th goal in the 43rd minute as he passed his defender, connected with his teammate for the assist and fired the goal. Ibrahimovic goal sparked a comeback, since the Galaxy down 3-0 but they fell short.

Ibrahimovic’s career goal feat, just happened days after Cristiano Ronaldo achieved his 400th career goal in Juventus Serie A match against Sassuolo.

Ibrahimovic has now scored 438 goals in his stints with Malmo FF, Ajax, Inter Milan, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United.

The 36-year-old recorded 62 goals for Sweden men’s football team.

Cristiano Ronaldo omitted from Portugal men’s football team line-up for now

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will not play for the Portugal men’s football friendlies against Poland on October 11th and Scotland on October 14th. The announcement came as Ronaldo is facing a serious allegation of raping a woman in a Las Vegas hotel room back in 2009.

According to the lawsuit filed by the American victim Kathryn Mayorga back on September 28th, Ronaldo raped her despite the screaming and saying no to the sexual advances of Ronaldo.

Back in 2009, Mayorga filed a rape complaint against Ronaldo at the Las Vegas Police Department but the case was dropped the following year after the settlement was made between the both camps but, Mayorga claims in the lawsuit she was harass by Ronaldo’s team by’’ intentional infliction of emotional distress, coercion and fraud, and abuse of a vulnerable person.’’

In filing the lawsuit, Mayorga’s camp was hoping to void the 2010 agreement which Ronaldo’s camp reportedly paid her 375,000 US dollars in exchange of her silence.

The Las Vegas Police Department said they reopened the investigation regarding Ronaldo’s case last month.

In a series of tweets last October 4th, Ronaldo denied the allegations saying ‘’ “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” Ronaldo quoted in a report of CNN . “Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.’’

He also added : ‘’Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.’’

“My clear conscience will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations,” Ronaldo conclude.

Portuguese Football Federation President Fernando Gomes is standing behind Ronaldo quoted by another report of CNN ‘’ I believe in the words issue yesterday, not only because I defend the presumption of innocent as a basic principle of a state of law, but also because I have known Ronaldo for many years and I am a witness to his good character.”

Ronaldo is suspended in Juventus’ second UEFA Champions League assingment against Swiss club Young Boys after incurring a red card in Juventus first assignment against Spanish club Valencia but he played in Juventus’ Serie A game versus Udinese which the team won, 2-0 last October 7th. Ronaldo scored for Juventus in the 37th minute- his fourth goal for the team since arriving from Real Madrid.
