England’s head coach, Gareth Southgate will stay in the team after signing a four-year, 3 million British pound contract, to keep him on command through the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The deal was announced last September 26th.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the national team through the next two major tournaments,’’ said Southgate via Goal.com, referring to UEFA Nations League and UEFA Euro 2020.
“The job remains an incredible privilege and a true honor. Experiencing at first-hand how the nation united behind the team this summer was something special and it will be great to see how far this young squad can go in the years to come.’’
Southgate, who led England for its first World Cup semifinals finish since 1990 and putting his team a game away from the finals, came in command for the Three Lions in replacing Sam Allardyce last November 2016. Since then, the 48-year-old led England youth movement in the roster- which is one of the keys why England had a deep run in the last edition of the World Cup.
British Football Association (FA) chief executive Martin Glenn said, securing Southgate commitment for the England men’s football team for the long run is one of their priorities.
‘’Securing Gareth on a longer-term contract was always a priority for us. He has performed remarkably well and has given everyone the belief that England can compete on a world stage again,’’ said Glenn via the same Goal.com report.
“He is also a tremendous ambassador for the organization, our development teams and the wider work of The FA, although his focus is rightly solely on helping the elite team,’’ Glenn added.
Currently, Southgate tallied 13 wins, four draws and six losses as the head coach of England.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores 500th career goal in Los Angeles Galaxy loss
Zlatan Ibrahimovic achieved a personal record in scoring his 500th career goal but it did not save his team, the Los Angeles Galaxy who lost to Toronto FC with a score of 5-3 in Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season game last September 16th.
Forget about the loss, since Ibrahimovic had a fantastic way in recording his 500th goal in the 43rd minute as he passed his defender, connected with his teammate for the assist and fired the goal. Ibrahimovic goal sparked a comeback, since the Galaxy down 3-0 but they fell short.

The 36-year-old recorded 62 goals for Sweden men’s football team.
