Last week, two teams have entered in Football History. The Olympique Lyonnais women’s team and the Real Madrid men’s won their 5th Champions League held in Kiev, Ukraine on May 24th.

The Olympique Lyonnais confronted VfL Wolfsburg to achieve their 5th Women Champions League. In 2013, the Germans won the competition against the Lyonnaise but lost in the match in 2016. The finale this year was the final confrontation between the two best team of Europe. In women’s football, Lyon is considered as the boss and crushes all its competitors. VfL Wolfsburg dreamed of a new German victory, but the French champion (12 times champion in France) waited for history.

The French armada taken by Ada Hegerberg, who is elected Best player in the world in 2017, imposed its rules, without goal. The French and German teams were cautious and needed to wait the second half to watch some actions. At the 69th minute, the referee refused a legal goal for Lyon. The French team was crazy with anger, and the players became untenable.

At the end of regular time, the score was 0-0. The overtime created a mixed energy of anger and concentration. Two minutes later, a goal was scored for Wolfsburg! The Danish striker, Pernille Harder, shooted for open the score and gave the advantage to her team. By the time, Alex Popp was expulsed because of the second yellow card and left her team with 10 players against the best team of Europe. This goal and expulsion boosted the pride of Wendie Renard’s teammates. Shanice Van der Sanden changed with Saki Kumagai, outperformed all team of Wolfsburg and with five minutes left, Amandine Henry legalized for Lyon and Eugénie Le Sommer scored the second goal. Ada Hegerberg and Camille Abily worsened the score with 2 goals each. The final score was 1-4 for Lyon which won its 5th Women champions league.

Additionaly, this victory also created a new record for the team. Lyon is now the only club winning five times the competition and three times in a row. Moreover, Ada Hegerberg became a record-holder for women with the most number of goals scored, with 15 goals.

“We have entered in the history” claimed Ada Hegerberg, who will play against the Paris Saint Germain with her sister Andrine on Thursday, 1st June. The captain of Lyon congratuled the Wolfsburg team and added ” it could not end like that” in reference to the refused goal.

However, Lyon was not the only club who waited for a monumental event. The players of the Real Madrid, like the woman of Lyon, won the champions league for the fifth time against Liverpool. Zidane’s players made the show worthy to be embedded in Football history. Karim Benzema scored first, thanks to a grave mistake made by the Liverpool’s goalkeeper. But, Liverpool was able to equalize four minutes later. Before that, Gareth Bale gave the advantage for Real Madrid with an acrobatic goal. Bale scored three times after another mistake of the goalkeeper. The final score is 3-1 for Real Madrid who also enters in Football history.
